The Bible tells us we are
loved. John 3:16 has been called "God's love letter"
to us. No matter how much unloved by others we may feel,
we can count on One Love that will never stop loving, and that
is God's love demonstrated through Jesus Christ. If you have
never responded to that love, please do so today. Jesus said,
"I stand at the door (of your heart), and knock. If anyone
hears my voice, and opens the door, I will come in..." (Revelation
3:20). Invite Him in today, and you will find Him to be a
"Friend who sticks closer than a brother" (Proverbs 18:24).
May the Lord make His love real to you today! - Pastor Mel

Meet the Chasteen Family
Mel and Marlene Chasteen and their four children (from
left: Jonathan, Melana, James, and Josiah) pictured late August 2007
at California Baptist University in Riverside.
The Chasteen family moved to California from Illinois in 1998.
Living first in Ontario, then Santa Fe Springs, they now call
Alturas home. James, who finished high school this year at
Modoc High School, is beginning studies in the Bachelor of Theology
program at California Baptist University and will sing in the
University Choir. He also plays the guitar. Melana
graduated (music major, concentrating in piano) from Cal Baptist in
2005, and is returning as a graduate student in music education.
Josiah is completing his fourth year at CBU, in a music education
track, and plays trumpet. Jonathan is beginning his fourth
year there as a music major, and plays trombone (and guitar). So, four Chasteens will be together again in one place this fall. Pray for Mel and Marlene's coping with the "empty nest" syndrome!
